The concentration of expertise in the teams also helps in providing on-the-job informal training that greatly benefits people who are fresh out of university or who have less working experience than most of our staff.

Our philosophy is to provide challengs and clear milestones that push people to achieve greater results one step at a time in a steady manner, ensuring a continuous path of self-improvement. In order to support our staff, we have embarked on a long term project to provide a PRINCE2/ITIL/ITSM compliant project support and CMMI-DEV standards to assist in achieving a smooth process.

Juicy Fridays

Charonite also provides the concept of Juicy Fridays for all of its development staff. Juicy Fridays are held regularly (on a Friday afternoon of course!) with a topic of interest being discussed every time. The topics may range on a presentation-style presentation of some interesting subject (for example, search engine indexing algorithms or CUDA programming), or a workshop-style hands-on experience (for example, MVC frameworks, Lua scripting). Some light snacks and an informal atmosphere help ensure that the event is made enjoyable to all while helping staff learn about new topics and get ideas from impromptu brainstorming sessions.

Holidays

Charonite ensures that we provide at least one paid holiday to our staff, typically going somewhere in Europe - past holidays have been held in Pisa and Florence, Venice, Madrid and Rome. During these holidays we organise team building activities like treasure hunts and games that help teams bond together and compete effectively. Small token rewards (like the Clyde Award for the funniest photo) are usually presented based on the results of a very expert panel. Naturally, there is always time for the usual sight seeing, good food and free time to roam around the place where we visit.

Sports and Social Activities

At Charonite we regularly organise a variety of social activities including drinks, paintball, themed events, BBQs, visits to attractions, etc. Additionally we encourage a healthy atmosphere and encourage our staff to participate in sport activities - sports that our staff participate in include football (soccer), baseball, basketball, lots of jogging and running, softball, archery and even swordfighting!
